When is it time to let go?

I have a simple question, but the answer may be very complex. What is the difference between letting go and giving up? We all have believed in something that we thought would work out; but when you made the decision to walk away, why did you walk away?  Was it because it was too hard or that thing you believed in showed signs that it was not going to work out any way. Aren’t those two things the same? Or are they different? Think about it!!! I think there is a fine line between giving up and letting go, but the problem is how can you tell the difference? How do you know whether you are giving up or letting go? I would love your feed back!

    My philosophy:
Letting go is knowing that you cannot help someone anymore. You become at peace with who or what they are and that you have no command over that.
Giving up is loosing pantience with the efforts you make on someone. Giving up is when you decided that you just don’t want to do it anymore.
    For example:
You have a friend who constantly asks for help about the drama in her life.
Letting go: when you know she dosen’t take your advice, and understand that she dosen’t want it anyway, they just want attention and refusing to give in
Giving up: Becoming tired of aiding them with all their drama because you don’t don’t feel like you can give anymore, but your friend takes your advice and really does care what you think.

    That’s my take
